## Welcome to Chemistry Honors

#### Chemistry Honors is UC approved for extra honors credit: A=5, B=4, C=3

### The Chemistry Honors class is a sophomore or junior level honors course developed to challenge the top math and science students. The curriculum is designed to cover the concepts of a general chemistry course usually taken during the first college year. The topics covered include atomic and molecular structure, the periodic table, chemical bonds, stoichiometry, gases, acids and bases, solutions, thermodynamics, reaction rates, chemical equilibrium, and nuclear chemistry. Chemistry requires high-level math skills. The course is highly quantitative with an emphasis on chemical calculations and the mathematical formulation of principles and is focused around a substantial project-based laboratory component. Laboratory work will allow the students to apply formulas, analyze data and express results in written lab reports.
